Bennett Place State Historic Site

This simple farmhouse at Bennett Place is where Confederate Gen. Johnston and Union Gen. Sherman met in 1865 and signed surrender papers for southern armies in the Carolinas, Georgia, and Florida - making it the war's largest troop surrender site. Today James Bennett's reconstructed farmhouse, kitchen, and smokehouse recall the lifestyle of an ordinary Southern farmer during the Civil War.
